The Mexican Army Day is commemorated every February 19 in Mexico. This date recognizes the work, discipline, and commitment of the military forces in the defense of national sovereignty and support for the population in emergency situations.
The celebration dates back to 1913, when the Congress of Coahuila disavowed the government of Victoriano Huerta and granted powers to Venustiano Carranza to create the Constitutionalist Army, the antecedent of the current Mexican Army. Over time, this institution consolidated as one of the pillars of the Mexican State. Currently, the Mexican Army is part of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) and participates in security tasks, implementation of Plan DN-III-E in cases of natural disasters, social work, and international humanitarian aid missions. We recommend reading: Each year, official ceremonies, parades, and commemorative events are held in different parts of the country to pay tribute to the women and men who make up this institution.
