More than 40 million people are facing a new major snowstorm this Monday in the northeastern United States, where the governors of eight states declared a state of emergency.
With up to 90 centimeters of snow, gusts of about 90 km/h and reduced visibility, the storm caused the cancellation of flights and the power outage in thousands of homes and businesses in the region, especially in New York City, since early morning.

"According to current forecasts, the worst is over", announced the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, at a press conference on Monday afternoon.
Between 40 and 50 cm of snow had fallen on most of the city and an additional four to seven (cm) were expected until 20:00 local time (01:00 GMT), he indicated. The Providence airport in Rhode Island recorded a record 83 cm of snow and it was not ruled out that the accumulated amounts would reach 90 cm throughout the afternoon. In New York, the circulation of non-essential vehicles was again authorized from noon on Monday, but travel was still considered dangerous.
