London.- King Charles III and Queen Camilla will make a state visit to the United States on the recommendation of the British Government, although the exact date and details of the trip will be announced in due course, Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the royal family, confirmed this Tuesday.

This visit aims to celebrate the historical ties and the modern relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, as 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, according to a palace statement. The visit of the kings is scheduled for the end of April and follows the one made by the US President, Donald Trump, last year to the United Kingdom in order to deepen the relationship.

This will be the first state visit by Charles III to the U.S. since he assumed the throne in 2022, although as Prince of Wales he was in that country 19 times.

Carlos III's mother, Queen Elizabeth II, made four state visits to the U.S., in 1957, 1976, 1991, and 2007. Since 1952, a U.S. president has made four state visits to the United Kingdom - in 2003, 2011, 2019, and 2025. After the trip to the U.S., the king will travel to Bermuda, which will also be his first visit to this territory since he assumed the role of head of state. Carlos III's trip to the U.S. will take place at a delicate moment in the bilateral relationship due to disagreements between Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the war in Iran. The Labour leader has made it clear that he will not enter the war in Iran, but that the Government will defend British interests in the region and support the allies of the Persian Gulf. Trump has harshly criticized Starmer for his reluctance to fully involve the UK in the US-led offensive.

In that sense, the US president today asked the countries that have refused to participate in his military offensive against Iran to act with "courage" and "take" the Strait of Hormuz: "the most complicated thing is already done. Go for your oil," he insisted. Carlos III's trip will take place after US Congressman Ro Khanna asked the king to meet privately with the victims of the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein during his visit to the US. According to the BBC, the Democratic congressman said in a letter to the king that members of Congress have requested the testimony of the monarch's brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, about his links to Epstein, who died in August 2019. The monarch has said in the past that he sympathizes with the victims of all kinds of abuse. Prince Andrew, whose brother the king has stripped of all noble titles and honors for his ties to Epstein, has not responded to the request and has always denied any wrongdoing regarding his ties to the convicted pedophile. Last February, Andrés Mountbatten-Windsor was detained for several hours by the British police in relation to his past work as a special trade envoy after it came to light that he had passed sensitive government information to Epstein in his day. Virginia Giuffre, who passed away in 2025, accused former Prince Andrew a few years ago of having sexual relations with her when she was a minor, with Epstein's intermediation.
