The National Council of Export Free Zones (CNZFE) reported that during January-March 2026, the value of the sector's exports amounted to US$2,085.1 million, representing an increase of 4.3% when compared to the US$1,998.9 million registered in the same period of the year 2025, for an absolute increase of US$86.2 million.
They explained that these results are due to a sustained expansion in the value of exports from Free Zones during the first quarter of 2026, consolidating the sector and expanding its global footprint, despite the complex macroeconomic scenario and international uncertainty.
Johannes Kelner, CEO of the CNZFE, highlighted the performance of exports corresponding to the month of March 2026, which reached US$841.2 million, becoming the highest monthly export figure recorded since the establishment of the free zone sector in the country.
Likewise, Kelner emphasized the quarterly advance of the sector, highlighting the performance of the medical devices activity, leading exports with a value of US$721.5 million for a growth of 9.3% compared to the same quarter of 2025, while the manufacture of tobacco and electrical products showed an extraordinary boost with rebounds of 16.6% and 17%, respectively.
Other key sectors, such as chemicals (+16.9%) and footwear (+6.6%), also maintained their upward trend, strengthening the diversity of the exportable supply; in a global environment marked by volatility and macroeconomic uncertainty.
With this behavior, the CNZFE reaffirms that these results respond to the strengthening of the business climate in the Dominican Republic, as well as to the trust and solid governance generated by the current authorities of the sector, headed by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Mr. Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, factors that continue to boost the competitiveness and positioning of Dominican free zones in strategic international markets.
