Mariners spoil Heroes' debut with buzzer-beating triple

MOCA. – The Marineros de Puerto Plata ruined the historic debut of the Héroes de Moca by winning 89-86 with a dramatic three-pointer by Emmanuel Omogbo in the last second, in the inaugural day of the Super Liga LNB 2026, held in the Polideportivo Moca 85.

The game was decided in the final moments, after John Clark Jr. tied the score 86-86 with two free throws with 21 seconds left. In the last possession, Omogbo received an open pass from Reggie Hudson and, unopposed, scored the winning shot from the left side. Omogbo led the Mariners with 19 points and 10 rebounds, supported by Richard Polanco, who added 18 units and eight rebounds. Andrés Fulgencio also contributed with 14 points and Luis Morel with 13, while Reggie Hudson distributed nine assists. For the Heroes, Clark Jr. stood out with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists, matching Caleb Huffman's offensive production. Robert Glenn added 12 units, while Eloy Vargas and Kevin Obanor achieved a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds each. The home team started strong, dominating the first quarter 26-22 after taking an 11-point lead. However, the Mariners reacted and managed to go into halftime ahead 48-47, in a duel that remained close throughout the night. The third period continued with high intensity and constant changes in leadership, closing tied 66-66.
