The information was revealed by the team owner, Steve Cohen, who highlighted the stellar outfielder's progress after the 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a result that extended the New York team's losing streak. Soto, who was injured on April 3 in San Francisco, had already been doing baseball activities, including indoor batting practice. However, the start of the running program represents a decisive step forward in his rehabilitation, as his activation will depend on fully recovering his speed. The exact time for his return is not yet defined, although within the organization they estimate that he could rejoin in a period of two to three weeks. Furthermore, it is not ruled out that the team will opt for alternative methods for his preparation, such as facing minor league pitchers in simulated sessions at Citi Field, as explained by manager Carlos Mendoza. The possible return of Soto would be a significant boost for a Mets team that has struggled offensively in his absence, scoring two runs or less in five of their last six games. Before his injury, the Dominican was one of the team's most productive hitters, with a .355 average, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .516 slugging percentage, as well as a home run and two doubles in eight games. Soto's evolution will be key to the Mets' aspirations of reversing their bad start and regaining rhythm in the season.
