Santo Domingo.- A woman identified as Alba Nelly García Peña, 27 years old, remains in a delicate state after receiving a gunshot to the head during an event that occurred in a recreation center.
According to versions offered by family members, the young woman was involved in an altercation with police officers, during which she was hit by a firearm projectile in the cranial region. The medical report indicates that she presents a severe traumatic brain injury, of the open and penetrating type, accompanied by a left frontal fracture, multiple cerebral contusions, and a subdural hematoma. Given the severity of the condition, she underwent emergency surgery that included a decompressive craniotomy and hematoma evacuation. Currently, she remains admitted to the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, under mechanical ventilation and with specialized monitoring.
