Santo Domingo.-The 24th of April was established as Municipalities Day by law 3455 on municipal organization in its article 214, and it is retaken in the current Law of the National District and the municipalities 176 – 07 in its article 369.
The existence of City Councils in America is recognized since the beginning of colonization. The first City Council of the new world was established on April 24, 1494, in the town of La Isabela in what is now the municipality of La Isabela in the Province of Puerto Plata. City councils are the institutions in charge of governing towns and municipalities, that is, they are responsible for offering citizens a series of services, including the management of vehicle traffic, the care of green areas and the collection of solid waste. We recommend reading: These are integrated by the Chapter House, where representatives of the community called councilors are present, who are chosen through municipal elections held every four years.
