Rome.– Italian authorities ordered the cancellation of concerts by American rappers Travis Scott and Kanye West, scheduled for July 17 and 18 in the city of Reggio Emilia, due to concerns related to security and public order. The decision was communicated by the Government Delegation, after both the province and the municipality of Reggio Emilia requested clarifications on the security plan and the logistics of the music festival that would host both shows. The authorities expressed concern about the organizers' ability to manage the arrival of tens of thousands of attendees, given the risk of incidents linked to the massive gathering of the public. In addition to logistical concerns, there were requests from the consumer association Codacons and the Jewish communities of Reggio Emilia and Modena, who requested government intervention regarding Kanye West's performance. The artist has been the subject of international controversies due to statements considered antisemitic and comments related to Nazism. Because of these controversies, he has also faced restrictions on carrying out activities in other countries, including the United Kingdom. In the case of Travis Scott, authorities assessed the history of his concerts, known for gathering large numbers of young people and creating high-density audience scenarios, which increased concerns about potential safety issues.

Over the past few weeks, social organizations and political figures had intensified the pressure for Kanye West's concert to be suspended, while questions about the organizational capacity of the event continued.

With the cancellation of both shows, the Italian authorities assure that they seek to guarantee citizen security and prevent situations that may affect public order in the Emilia-Romagna region.
