Thais Herrera receives international recognition at world mountaineering summit in Nepal

Santo Domingo.– Dominican mountaineer Thais Herrera continues to raise the name of the Dominican Republic on the international stage after participating as a Distinguished Guest at the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Herrera, who in 2024 made history by becoming the first Dominican woman to conquer the summit of Mount Everest and complete the "7 Summits" challenge, was invited by the Everest Alliance Nepal organization to be part of this prestigious meeting that brings together some of the most outstanding climbers in the world.

During her stay in the Asian country, the athlete visited the Everest Base Camp to commemorate the second anniversary of the expedition that took her to the highest peak on the planet, an experience that marked a before and after in Dominican sports.

As part of his official agenda, Herrera held a meeting with the honorary consul of the Dominican Republic in Nepal, Gaurav Agarwal, and gave a conference to diplomats, entrepreneurs, and Nepalese executives, where he shared his story of overcoming, leadership, and perseverance.

The Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 also served as a space to discuss the main challenges facing the world's mountains, including the impact of climate change, glacier retreat, and environmental sustainability in the Himalayan region.

The Dominican woman actively participated in panels on female leadership in mountaineering and environmental conservation, reaffirming her commitment to the promotion of sport and the protection of natural resources.

The event was attended by the President of Nepal, Ramchandra Paudel, as well as representatives from the tourism, environmental, and sports sectors of different countries.

During the Everest Honors ceremony, organized to recognize climbers and Sherpa guides who have contributed to the development of world mountaineering, the importance of athletes as ambassadors of conservation and sustainable development was highlighted.

With this participation, Thais Herrera strengthens her position as one of the most influential figures in adventure sports in the region and consolidates her legacy as a pioneer of Dominican mountaineering in international scenarios.

In addition to her achievements in high mountain climbing, Herrera is a businesswoman, lecturer, triathlete, and the first Dominican woman to complete an Ironman. She is also the creator of the Pico Duarte Express event and actively participates in social and community development initiatives.
