Santo Domingo.– The construction of the extension of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro continues its course with notable progress almost four years after its start.

This work, which formally began in February 2022, comprises a 7.3-kilometer stretch from the María Montez station (Km 9 of the Duarte highway) to the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, and will include five elevated stations, a 6.3-kilometer viaduct, and a 940-meter tunnel.

During a De Último Minuto tour, the active presence of work brigades operating even in evening and night hours was verified. In addition, cargo trucks and heavy machinery were active in different areas of the project.

It is recalled that during "La Semanal" held this Monday, President Luis Abinader announced that the operational tests of the new metro section will begin in September of this year.

“I would be the first one riding the Metro to test the rails (…) That is scheduled for transportation and to receive passengers starting in February 2026,” stated the Head of State.

With an investment exceeding 500 million dollars, this extension will directly benefit over a million people who commute daily to and from the west of Santo Domingo. It is expected to significantly reduce travel times and contribute to the decongestion of traffic on the Duarte highway.
