Giants defeat the Bulls and secure their third consecutive victory

LA ROMANA.– Nomar Mazara hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to break the tie and lead the Gigantes del Cibao to a 2-1 victory over the Toros del Este, on Wednesday night, in a game corresponding to the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM) tournament, dedicated to Juan Marichal and played for the Banreservas Cup.

All the runs of the game were produced by home runs. The Bulls took the lead in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Tres Barrera to left field. However, the Giants responded immediately in the seventh, when Julio Carreras tied the score with a home run to left field. The decisive hit came in the eighth inning, when Mazara punished the rival pitching with his second home run of the season, sending the ball beyond the wall to seal the victory of the northeasterners. With the victory, the Giants improved their record to 20-25 and extended their winning streak to three, while the Bulls fell to 25-20 and suffered their third consecutive loss. In addition, the Giants dominated the head-to-head series between both teams with a record of 8-2. From the mound, Shane Greene opened for the Giants and worked four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, with one walk and four strikeouts. Yovanny Cruz (3-0) was credited with the win after pitching the seventh inning, while Anderson Pilar was in charge of closing the ninth inning to record the save (6). For the Bulls, starting pitcher Jaime Barría had a solid performance of five innings, in which he allowed one earned run, four hits, gave one walk and struck out six batters. The loss went to Yaramil Hiraldo (0-1), who gave up the decisive home run in the eighth inning.

Offensive Highlights

For the Giants, Nomar Mazara went 2-for-4, with a double, home run, a run scored, and an RBI; Julio Carreras went 1-for-3, with a home run, a run scored, and an RBI; while Luis García Jr. hit a single in three at-bats.

For the Toros, Tres Barrera finished 2-1, with a home run, one run scored and one RBI, and Luis Liberato hit 1-3, with a walk.

There will be no activity in LIDOM this Thursday. The Giants will resume their schedule on Friday in San Pedro de Macorís at 7:30 PM, before receiving the Leones del Escogido on Saturday and visiting the capitalinos again on Sunday. The regular season will conclude next Tuesday.
