Santo Domingo.– The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, appointed Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón as the new Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, through Decree No. 3-26, as part of a reconfiguration of the government aimed at strengthening key areas of national economic development.
Sanz Lovatón served as General Director of Customs from August 2020, an institution in which he promoted modernization and strengthening processes of customs management. In the political field, he is the founder of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), current national secretary of Finance and member of its Executive Directorate. In addition, he was political director of Luis Abinader's presidential campaign in 2020.

He is a lawyer, a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), and holds a master's degree in International Law from the Center for Strategic Studies in Paris. Between 2003 and 2016, he taught university courses at PUCMM, APEC, and UNIBE. Likewise, Sanz Lovatón was managing partner of the firm Staff Legal, SRL, from 2004 to 2020. His appointment to head the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes seeks to give continuity to the policies of promoting competitiveness, trade and the strengthening of the national productive sector.
