Investigative commission delivers preliminary report on Jet Set collapse

Santo Domingo. – The special commission appointed to investigate the causes of the collapse at the Jet Set nightclub delivered its preliminary report this Wednesday to the Attorney General's Office, after concluding the technical evaluation process initiated on the same day of the collapse, which occurred on April 8th. The information was confirmed by the coordinator of the commission and director of the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Infrastructure and Building Vulnerability (Onesvie), Leonardo Reyes Madera. "We already submitted the report a moment ago, we fulfilled our duty, thank God", Madera expressed, although he avoided offering specific details about the investigation's findings.

The team of experts was composed of national and international professionals highly specialized in structural engineering and earthquake resistance. Among them are the forensic engineer Fierro, from the University of California; the pathology engineer Máximo Corominas, from the Eduardo Torroja Institute, in Spain; the engineer Marcos Paniagua, with training at the Catholic University of Chile; and Remi Luciano, with a master's degree in earthquake-resistant engineering. President Luis Abinader had announced, during La Semanal, that the commission began working from the very day of the collapse, with the purpose of clarifying the causes of the accident and determining possible responsibilities. It is expected that, with this preliminary report in the hands of the Public Ministry, legal and administrative decisions can be made to avoid similar tragedies in the future, as well as to establish whether there was negligence in the construction, maintenance, or supervision of the establishment.
