Milagros Ortiz Bosch Receives Recognition at International Open Justice Conference

Santo Domingo. – Within the framework of the opening of the First International Open Justice Conference, the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic paid an emotional tribute to Dr. Milagros Ortiz Bosch, highlighting her visionary leadership and her firm commitment to transparency, integrity, and the construction of an open State. The distinction, presented at the Hotel El Embajador, recognizes Ortiz Bosch as a key figure in the promotion of democratic values and in the promotion of open government policies in the country. The plaque states: “The Judiciary of the Dominican Republic recognizes Dr. Milagros Ortiz Bosch for her visionary leadership and her firm commitment to an open, integral and transparent State, leaving a legacy that has strengthened the culture of open government and the values of public integrity in the Dominican Republic. Her example has inspired the transformation towards an open, close and guarantor justice of the rule of law”.

The tribute was granted in the presence of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, magistrate Luis Henry Molina, the president of the Constitutional Court, magistrate Napoleón Estévez, as well as international representatives, including Álvaro Herrero from the International Open Justice Network, Ana from the Open Government Partnership, and Tatiana de P. from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Visibly moved, Ortiz Bosch thanked the recognition and shared it with all those who, over decades, have contributed to strengthening Dominican democracy and the foundations of a more transparent judicial system. She recalled historical milestones of the country's democratic struggle and emphasized that "without justice there is no possible democracy".

“This recognition is not only mine, but of all those who have worked to open institutions to the citizen, so that justice is not a myth, but a tangible and close reality,” he expressed. Ortiz Bosch called to consolidate efforts towards an open State and society, highlighting the importance of citizen participation, accountability and transparency as unavoidable pillars of justice.

The act of recognition concluded with prolonged applause in honor of the person who has been a moral and political reference for several generations, and with the commitment that this recognition will become an inspiration to continue building an open, inclusive, and people-centered justice.
