Santo Domingo.– The deputy Bolívar Valera (PRM-Santo Domingo Este) filed a bill this Tuesday that seeks to prohibit and severely punish the creation, dissemination, and commercialization of intimate content generated through artificial intelligence (AI) or deepfake technology without consent.
The initiative aims to protect the privacy, integrity, and fundamental rights of citizens against the growing use of these technologies for defamatory, sexual, extortionate, or political purposes.

"With this law we seek to set clear limits on the irresponsible use of emerging technologies that are being used to impersonate faces, voices and actions for malicious purposes," said Valera.
The project includes:
- Prison sentences of 3 to 10 years for creators and marketers of unauthorized deepfake content.
- Fines of up to 500 minimum wages for those who disseminate it, even if they are not the authors.
- Aggravated sanctions if the victims are minors, pregnant women, or if it is intimate content.
- Immediate removal of the material on digital platforms and blocking of repeat offender accounts.
- Mandatory cooperation of technology companies with operations or users in the country.
