Santo Domingo.– After learning of the request for coercive measures against Antonio Espaillat and Maribel Espaillat for the collapse of the Jet Set roof, which left a balance of 235 dead and more than 180 injured, a key figure emerges in the file: Manuel Jiménez Mateo.
Jiménez, who is listed as the maintenance manager of RCC Media, and according to the file presented by the Public Ministry, which De Último Minuto had access to, was the person who warned and repaired the structural problems of the roof in the days prior to the disaster. According to the document, Jiménez maintained direct communication with Antonio and Maribel Espaillat via WhatsApp, sending videos, photos, and voice notes since 2024 and who instructed on the tasks that should be carried out in the establishment. You can also read: Maribel Espaillat tried to prevent information about roof conditions from being disclosed, according to MP
Jiménez Mateo, who has no record of being an engineer or architect, supervised and executed the repairs with an informal team composed of José Luis García and two Haitian workers nicknamed “Caballito” and “El Grande”. The tasks performed by Jiménez included the placement of curbs, asphalt tarpaulins, cement, and concrete breaking, all without the intervention of engineers or architects. Despite its central role in the supervision and direct action on the collapsed structures, the Public Ministry does not identify it as an accused, but as a key witness, since the file is based on the responsibility of the owners for not hiring qualified personnel or making responsible structural decisions.
