Santo Domingo.- The National Institute for Consumer Protection (Pro Consumidor) said today that it activated a special inspection operation nationwide, with the aim of monitoring the offers, promotions and prices announced by businesses on the occasion of the celebration of Valentine's Day, and to avoid misleading practices that affect citizens.
The executive director of Pro Consumidor, Eddy Alcántara, reported that these supervisory actions are being carried out intensively in department stores, florists, jewelers, restaurants, perfumeries and e-commerce platforms, sectors where a significant increase in offers is traditionally recorded during this holiday that is celebrated on February 14th of each year.

Alcántara explained in a press release that the operation is focused on verifying the truthfulness of advertising, respect for the prices displayed, as well as the clarity and compliance with the conditions of promotions, with special attention to the guarantees and return policies offered to consumers. "The goal is to prevent abuses and misleading commercial practices that undermine consumer trust, especially on a date of high commercial activity," the official specified. He warned that any business that incurs irregularities will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of Law 358-05, reiterating that the institution will not allow violations of consumer rights. Likewise, he urged the population to get informed before buying, compare prices, carefully read the terms and conditions of the offers and keep their proof of payment, which constitute the main evidence for making claims.
