Santo Domingo. The Vice Minister of Innovation and Energy Transition of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), Betty Soto, informed that the institution is developing an energy consumption monitoring center so that government entities can control and reduce their energy expenditure.
"From Energy and Mines, we are working on a national energy efficiency strategy, which in its first phase will cover all government institutions. In particular, we are promoting this monitoring center so that they can monitor their consumption and optimize it," explained Soto.
The Vice Minister recalled that 45 institutions concentrate 80% of the energy budget. "If we apply this policy in about 10 or 20 prioritized institutions, the resources saved can be invested in innovation and technology," she specified.
Regarding future projects, Soto agreed with Minister Joel Santos on the need to update the regulatory framework for the energy and mining sector. "We have prioritized the updating of all regulations as part of our strategies," he indicated.
The official addressed these issues during the panel "Energy Efficiency and Digital Transformation" at the 5th edition of Energy and Mining Resources (REM), organized by Revista Factor de Éxito (FDE). Edy Jiménez, commercial vice president of AES Dominicana, and lawyer Guillermo Estrella, managing partner of the firm Estrella & Tupete, also participated.
On his side, Edy Jiménez highlighted that digital transformation depends on having well-structured databases, since otherwise the execution of projects is put at risk. For her part, Estrella highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and President Luis Abinader's favorable vision towards these collaborations.
