California. - Rapper Atlas Fontaine, born in San Diego, California, but his upbringing between Tampa and Atlanta shaped him as a versatile artist, capable of navigating between influences of American hip hop and the electrifying Caribbean urban movement.
Although many artists dream of conquering the United States, Edwin Leonard Davis II, Atlas's real name, has set his sights on the Dominican Republic, a country he knew as a tourist and was captivated by its treatment and culture.
"As the saying goes, no one is a prophet in their own land," confesses the rapper, who is now seeking to consolidate his career on the island.
His strategy is already bearing fruit: he has collaborated with figures of the genre such as Jayden el Antidema, El Cherry Scom, Haraca Kiko, Aleica, El Mello 06, Mandrake and Sin Freno, from whom he claims to have learned to work under pressure to always deliver projects that meet expectations.
Currently, he promotes the theme “Disque Puro”, a collaboration with Haraca Kiko and Jayden el Antidema, with which he aims to conquer the Dominican public.
Regarding the differences he perceives between urban scenes, Atlas considers that in the Dominican Republic there is a unity that is rarely seen in the United States.
"I love that, because here I feel that the music is built as a family," he specified.
The rapper artistically defines himself as "fun, recommended, and versatile", characteristics that, added to his style and stage presence, have managed to connect with the local audience.
However, she acknowledges that facing genres like dembow has been a challenge: "One of my most challenging collaborations was with Jayden, because it's dembow and it's not from my culture. But I like the challenge."
For Atlas, the key to his creative process lies in rhythm, as inspiration flows from there. And although it still marks his essence, he assures that the fashion and style of Dominicans have similarities with the urban scene of his hometown.
Atlas Fontaine plans to continue working with great Dominican producers and artists to achieve international success: "I want my music to be that bridge that unites the best of Atlanta and the best of the Dominican Republic," he affirms with determination.
