Rome.- The wedding between Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in Venice could generate an economic impact of approximately 957.3 million euros, mainly due to visibility and "represents an event of exceptional importance for Italy and for the city", according to an estimate by the Statistics Office of the Italian Ministry of Tourism published this Friday.
For the Ministry of Tourism this event could relaunch the city "especially at a time of decline in tourism in the city, as in the first months of 2025 it registered a fall of 6.7% in overnight stays". According to these estimates, "the wedding could generate a total economic impact of approximately 957.3 million euros, equivalent to almost 68% of the city's annual tourism turnover." Although they specify that 93.6% of this estimate, 895.7 million euros, derives from the value attributed to the global media visibility generated by the event. While the direct benefits, i.e. the expenses of the 200 guests and rental costs, represent only 3%, about 28.4 million euros of the total. "Bezos and Lauren's wedding is a clear sign of the growing relevance of Italy in the international tourism landscape," also commented the Italian Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, who assured that "events like this strengthen our global image, generate employment, promote the territory and attract new qualified tourism flows."You may be interested in: Star-studded start to the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez
And she added "now more than ever we need to leave behind the controversies and focus on the opportunities. This is not just a private event, but a concrete engine for the entire sector. Venice has all the credentials to transform it into a relaunch and promotion opportunity", added the minister. According to these estimates, "the wedding could generate a total economic impact of approximately 957.3 million euros, equivalent to almost 68% of the city's annual tourism turnover, as more than 200 guests are expected, with a significant impact on the entire hospitality and services system". Furthermore, Santanche adds, "the global media visibility also reinforces the positioning of our country in the wedding sector, which is rapidly expanding and which foresees more than 600 events already scheduled by 2025. I thank Jeff Bezos and all those who choose Italy as the setting to celebrate the most important moments of their lives." In these days in which the different wedding events are being celebrated, protests have occurred due to the impact on the city, as well as activists reproached Bezos for having "been able to rent Venice", while his multinational Amazon avoids paying taxes in Italy.
