José Nova is a prominent Dominican journalist with a solid academic background and a career spanning multiple communication platforms. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, he is the son of María Elena Muñoz Tejada and Danilo Nova, and the youngest of four siblings.
José Manuel Nova Muñoz, as his full name is, from an early age, Nova Muñoz moved with his family to Santo Domingo, where he completed his primary and secondary studies. He graduated in Social Communication, Journalism major, at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) (2001-2007). Later, he expanded his knowledge with a master's degree in Political Science (2016-2018) at the same institution, and is currently studying for a law degree.
His training also includes studies at the Otto Rivera School of Voice-Over, which reinforced his versatility as a communicator.
Beginnings and Growth in Journalism of José Nova
José Nova began in the written press in 2005 as an intern at Listín Diario, where he was a pioneer in the updating of the then emerging Listín Diario Digital, a function for which he was recognized with the Journalist of the Year award.
In 2007, he joined the El Caribe newspaper, where he specialized in entertainment journalism. In 2014, he was appointed editor of the Arts & Entertainment section, a position he held until January 2022.
Current role and contributions in media
Currently, José Manuel Nova Muñoz is the deputy director of the digital media outlet De Último Minuto, one of the most influential news portals in the Dominican Republic. He is also part of the production team for the program +De un Minuto and works as a university professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), teaching subjects such as Media and Audiences, Project Management, Digital Communication and Public Relations.
His career includes participation in radio and television, standing out as a presenter on the program "Esquina 37" and as a co-host of the space dParranda Radio Show, broadcast on stations such as Súper Q and Dominicana FM until 2018.
Professional Affiliations
Nova Muñoz is an active member of the Asociación de Cronistas de Arte (Acroarte) since 2012, where she has held positions such as Secretary of International Affairs (2015-2017) and Secretary of Finance (2019-2021). She also belongs to the Colegio Dominicano de Periodistas (CDP).
