Santo Domingo, May 10, 2025 — The newspaper Diario Libre celebrates its 24th anniversary this Saturday, established as one of the most influential and reliable media outlets in the Dominican Republic. Since its first edition on May 10, 2001, the newspaper marked a milestone by becoming the first free-circulation newspaper in the country.
With an innovative proposal and an editorial model focused on truthfulness, ethics, and accessibility, Diario Libre transformed the way Dominicans access information. In its 24 years, it has gone from being a pioneering printed newspaper to a leading multi-platform platform, with a prominent presence in the digital environment, social networks, and audiovisual production.
“24 years ago we took on the challenge of informing with independence and responsibility. Today, we renew that commitment to a society that needs reliable sources in the midst of the overabundance of information and the proliferation of fake news,” said Aníbal de Castro, president of the media outlet.
Founder of Diario Libre
Since its founding by the entrepreneur Arturo Pellerano, Diario Libre has been a reference for its rigorous content, its modern design, and its strategic distribution throughout the country. Currently, the newspaper reaches more than 157,000 distribution points from Monday to Friday, in addition to having a digital portal with millions of monthly users.
The anniversary coincides with a stage of renewal following its acquisition by the Puntacana Group in 2023, which has driven an unprecedented technological and editorial transformation, while maintaining its essence as an independent media outlet.
