Following the public announcement of his candidacy, various protests have arisen that have displayed his iron grip on power since 1982, as well as various questions regarding his ability to continue his mandate. In October of last year, Biya disappeared from the public eye for 42 days. The absence of the leader generated strong rumors about his state of health and who was the real agent in charge of his country. Shortly after, it was the Cameroonian government itself that prohibited the media from any type of discussion or publication regarding the state of health of the current president of Cameroon.
