The music supervisor of American Idol, Robin Kaye, and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head in their Encino, Los Angeles residence on Monday, July 14. The arrest was made after reviewing security camera images and with the support of the FBI. Authorities say that Boodarian did not know the victims and that it is an isolated case, with no connection to other crimes in the area.

Confrontation

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a friend of the couple requested a welfare check after being unable to contact them. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found blood on the porch of the residence, located on the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue. By forcing entry, they discovered Kaye and Deluca dead in separate rooms, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The surveillance cameras show how the suspect scaled the 2.4-meter fence with spikes that protected the house and entered through an unsecured door. Thirty minutes later, the couple returned to the home and, according to the police version, were murdered after a violent confrontation inside the house. The crime occurred four days later after the police received reports about a man attempting to enter the same house. On that occasion, the officers failed to locate the suspect and withdrew after finding no signs of robbery, even though a helicopter flew over the area. The house showed no signs of having been ransacked and the motive for the crime remains unclear. Lieutenant Guy Golan, of the Los Angeles Police Department, confirmed that the investigation is still open and that multiple hypotheses are being evaluated. Robin Kaye worked as a music supervisor on American Idol since 2009. The program lamented the tragedy in a statement: "Robin has been a fundamental pillar of the Idol family since 2009 and was very loved and respected by all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts forever." The arrest of Boodarian took place at his residence in Encino and, so far, the formal charges have not been specified nor has it been reported whether he has legal representation.
