Pope Leo XIV canonizes Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, and Pier Giorgio Frassati in the Vatican

Vatican City.– In a large ceremony held this Sunday in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo XIV canonized Carlo Acutis (1991-2006), known as the “God's influencer”, becoming the first millennial saint of the Catholic Church. Acutis, who died in 2006 at the age of 15, gained notoriety for using technology and digital networks to spread the faith among young people, which gave him a unique popularity among the new generations of Catholics.

Along with him, Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925) was also proclaimed a saint, remembered for his commitment to the poor and his active Christian life. During the solemn ceremony, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints read the biographies of both blesseds and requested the pontiff to inscribe them in the book of saints. After the canonization formula in Latin pronounced by the Pope, the square erupted in applause, in an atmosphere charged with emotion and religious fervor.
