Two justices of the peace are murdered in Peru in less than a week

Lima.- Two justices of the peace were murdered in Peru in less than a week, denounced this Monday the president of the Judiciary, Janet Tello, during a public intervention in which she condemned the violence against these servants of the justice system. The two victims are the justice of the peace Jorge Renato Fernández Sánchez, from the district of Quilmaná, in the region of Lima; and Víctor Hugo López de la Cruz, justice of the peace in the district of Chicama, located in the region of La Libertad, which is on the northern coast of Peru.

The first murder occurred on October 5th at the hands of hitmen who shot him in broad daylight; and the second five days later, on the 10th, when hitmen with firearms burst into his office and riddled him with bullets at point-blank range. "With the death of the two justices of the peace, we all have to feel very affected," Tello pointed out. During the ceremony, the president of the Peruvian Judiciary also highlighted the continued work of justice in southern Lima to safeguard access to this service by vulnerable groups, "such as women and children victims of violence". In his speech, he explained that it is a "committed work" that included the creation and mobilization of the 'mobile office', a conditioned vehicle where the judge and the specialist attended to cases of gender violence, offering an itinerant justice service, and bringing it closer to hundreds of families from Lima. Previously, the president of the Superior Court of Justice of South Lima also made a call in her speech "to courage and integrity, to have the courage to face injustice and corruption, to act with wisdom and prudence; and to resist economic, social and political pressures". "Justice is essential for social peace, let us renew our commitments to defend the autonomy and independence of the judges of Lima Sur and of the whole country," he stated.
