Miami (USA).- Several Cuban-American congressmen attended a funeral mass in Miami (USA) this Thursday in honor of the murdered Colombian politician Miguel Uribe Turbay, in which they highlighted the legacy of the former senator.
"Miguel Uribe left his mark on Colombia forever and now protects it from heaven. His example of service and love for his homeland will live forever," said Republican congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar in a message on X, in which she shared an image of the Eucharist celebrated in the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
"Today the community in South Florida joins together to honor his life, legacy, and his firm commitment to democracy," he added.
Also Republican Congressman for Florida, Carlos Giménez, expressed on X that the assassination of Uribe Turbay, "cannot be in vain".
Uribe Turbay, grandson of former President Julio César Turbay (1978-1982), died last Monday, two months after having been seriously wounded by gunshots while campaigning politically in Bogotá.

The then-Colombian senator was wounded last June 7 with several shots to the head and in a leg during a campaign event in Bogotá ahead of the 2026 elections, in which he was seeking his nomination as a candidate for the right-wing Democratic Center party. Six people have been arrested so far in connection with the assassination, including the perpetrator, a 15-year-old teenager who was arrested with the gun used in the attack.
