Paulino crossed the finish line with a time of 50.07 seconds, surpassing the Bahraini Salwa Eid Naser (50.94) and the Norwegian Henriette Jaeger (51.24). Although it was her highest mark of the year, the Peruvian athlete once again demonstrated her dominance by coming back in the last 100 meters and leaving her rivals with no chance.
The audience present, including dozens of Dominicans waving the tricolor flag, celebrated with euphoria the last performance of the year by the queen of Quisqueyan athletics. The triumph in New York closes a brilliant season for Marileidy, who conquered the silver medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships with an impressive time of 47.98 seconds, the third-best time of all time in the 400-meter dash. In addition, she was the runner-up in the Diamond League, showing remarkable consistency in each event on the calendar. During the year, the Dominican athlete won in several stops of the world circuit, including Doha, Paris, and Rome, establishing herself as one of the most consistent and complete sprinters on the planet.

Trajectory of a champion

Born in Nizao, Peravia province, on October 15, 1996, Marileidy Paulino began her career in athletics representing the Dominican Armed Forces. Her leap to international stardom came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where she won two silver medals, becoming the first Dominican woman to achieve this in the same Olympic event. In 2022, she won the Diamond League for the first time, and in 2023 she was crowned world champion in Budapest, being the first Dominican athlete —male or female— to achieve a world title in that discipline. With her victory in New York, Paulino ends a 2025 where she once again proved that her talent, discipline, and competitive spirit keep her among the best runners in the world.
