MIAMI — Eury Pérez delivered when his team needed him most. The Dominican right-hander turned in a solid start to guide the Miami Marlins to a 5-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday at loanDepot park, ending a four-game losing streak.

In a duel of young power pitchers, Pérez outdueled Jacob Misiorowski with a performance that marked a turnaround after his recent struggles. After recording an ERA of 6.23 in his previous three starts, the Dominican recovered with a quality start: he allowed just one unearned run and three hits, while striking out seven opponents. The four-seam fastball was his main weapon. Pérez used it in two-thirds of his pitches and with it he got six of his seven strikeouts, in an efficient performance of 84 pitches. The offensive support came early. Miami attacked from the first inning, manufacturing three runs that set the course of the game and forced Misiorowski into a demanding start of 30 pitches. The first batters got on base to load the bases, and although debutant Kyle Stowers didn't get a hit, he contributed to the offensive pressure in a demanding at-bat in which he even got hit by a pitch. The attack continued with a ground ball by Dominican Agustín Ramírez and a two-out RBI single by Liam Hicks. Pérez dominated without major setbacks until the sixth inning, when he allowed his only walk to David Hamilton. The runner advanced to third after a steal and an error, and scored the rival's only run with a groundout by Garrett Mitchell. Miami's response was swift. In the bottom of that inning, Venezuelan Javier Sanoja extended the lead with a two-run single as a pinch hitter against DL Hall, which also represented the 100th hit of his career in the Major Leagues. With Pérez's dominance from the mound and a timely offensive, the Marlins managed to shake off the losing streak and get back on the path to victory.
