TORONTO.- The Toronto Blue Jays have made history again. With an 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees at the Rogers Centre, the Canadian team completed a four-game sweep and took first place in the American League East Division, something that hadn't happened since September 5, 2016.

With a record of 49-38, Toronto has exceeded all expectations this 2025 season, becoming one of the most pleasant surprises in MLB.

“That shows who we are as a team,” expressed George Springer, veteran and club leader. “Even with teammates out, we can go out and compete against one of the best teams in the league. Being able to go out on the field and be ourselves was incredible.”

Years of frustrations in October and rebuilding seem to be behind them. This group, led by manager John Schneider, has found chemistry, synchronicity, and unexpected depth in their lineup, especially during this series in which they did not have their star, Bo Bichette.

One of the key moments occurred on Thursday, when Nathan Lukes, in his first at-bat as the leadoff hitter of the year, worked a 14-pitch at-bat that ended in a decisive hit. “At that point I just lose track”, he said with a laugh. Even the opposing catcher, Austin Wells, joked: ‘Dude, just put it between the two lines!’

During the series, Davis Schneider also shone, who responded to a hunch from the coaching staff with two home runs in the third game, despite facing a right-handed pitcher. "That's the fun and difficult part of this job," commented manager Schneider. "24 hours ago we were talking about Davis versus Warren, and we said, 'It would be great if Schneids made me look good here.' And he did." Nine years after the last Blue Jays team that truly thrilled their fans, Toronto is dreaming big again. This time, with a different, deep team, and above all, with the firm conviction that the best is yet to come.
