  • 1533. The Royal Audience asks for opinions among the inhabitants of the city of Santo Domingo, about what should be done to be successful in the peace negotiations with Cacique Enriquillo (Guacanagarí).
  • 1602. The kings of Spain appoint Antonio Osorio Governor, Captain General and President of the Royal Audience of La Española.
  • 1863. General Santiago Rodríguez rose up in the community of Sabaneta, sending a column to San José de las Matas, also this same day the locals of Montecristi revolted.

  • 1962. The so-called “Emergency Law” is promulgated, by means of which the Council of State could deport people who were considered “dangerous for national tranquility and hinder the electoral process”.
  • - The young intellectuals Hugo Tolentino Dipp, Marcio Mejía Guzmán, Diego Bordas, Francisco Henríquez Vásquez and José Feris Iglesias are arrested and the first Council of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo is installed.
  • 1978. President Joaquín Balaguer begins his political promotion with a view to obtaining the fourth consecutive period, despite reflecting visual problems that he never admitted.
  • 1993. The former constitutionalist combatants Evelio Hernández, Norge Botello and Vice Admiral Manuel Ramón Monte Arache meet to deny Hamlet Hermann, about the alleged betrayal of these to Francisco Caamaño Deñó, upon his arrival at the head of a guerrilla group in February 1972.
  • 2011.   • 2021. The Public Ministry raids the headquarters of the Chamber of Accounts of the Republic from the early hours of the morning, from where two trucks full of documents are extracted, whose directors are investigated, along with other officials, for the alleged commission of several crimes of administrative corruption, including obstruction of justice and money laundering.
  • 2022. The Constitutional Court annuls numeral 7 of article 44 of law 33-18, of parties, groupings and political movements, which prohibits political propaganda through advertising messages on radio and television during the pre-election campaign, considering that “exceeds its character of necessity” and violates articles 40.15 and 49 of the Constitution.

  • 2010. The presidents of Colombia and Venezuela, Álvaro Uribe and Hugo Chávez, have a strong exchange of words during the Summit of Unity of Latin America and the Caribbean, of presidents and heads of state of the region held in Cancun, Mexico.
  • -The German airline Lufthansa canceled hundreds of flights today due to a four-day pilot strike, which is the largest in the history of aviation in Germany and will cost the company 100 million euros (136 million dollars).

  • 2016. The National Remembrance Institute of Poland publishes part of the documents that supposedly demonstrate that Nobel Peace Prize winner and former President Lech Walesa collaborated with the communist secret police in exchange for money, before assuming the leadership of the Solidarity union.
  • 2018. The Haitian government decreed the suspension for two months of the activities of the British NGO Oxfam, after the revelation of abuses committed by some of its employees, who hired prostitutes after the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010.
  • 2020. The Chinese authorities try to send a message of calm by assuring that they have the COVID-19 epidemic under control, given the fewer appearances in these last days of new cases of the disease, which has already left more than 2,200 dead in the country.
  • 2021. WHO approves two emergency versions of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, which paves the way for the distribution of hundreds of millions of doses to disadvantaged countries previously deprived of immunization.
  • - NASA releases the first audio from the planet Mars, a slight sound of wind captured by the Perseverance rover, along with a video of the mission's arrival on the red planet. 
  • 2022. US President Joe Biden announces the imposition of the first round of economic sanctions against Russia, with the aim of isolating Moscow from the Western financial system.
  • 2023. The Attorney General of Ecuador, Diana Salazar, reports that former President Lenín Moreno, his wife, a daughter, his two brothers, sisters-in-law and 30 other people for alleged bribes received in exchange for benefiting the construction of a hydroelectric plant, while asking the National Court of Justice to set a date and time for the hearing of formulation of charges.
