Today is International Cabin Crew Day, a date dedicated to recognizing the essential work of flight attendants in the safety and comfort of passengers during air travel. This commemoration pays tribute to Ellen Church, the first flight attendant in history, who in 1930 paved the way for a profession that is now indispensable in commercial aviation.

Flight attendants (TCP) are not only responsible for providing friendly service on board, but they are also responsible for ensuring safety in emergency situations, coordinating evacuations, assisting with first aid, and maintaining order in the cabin. Their training includes training in safety protocols, customer service, and handling critical situations.

To become a Flight Attendant, you need:

  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Possess good physical and mental health.
  • Know how to swim.
  • Have knowledge of English or other languages.
  • Have a valid passport and be available to travel.

In the Dominican Republic, training for flight attendants lasts approximately five months and is offered at institutions such as Inter Aviation Services (IASCA), ENALAS and ZOHERGA, with valid certification from the country's Aeronautical Authority.

Benefits of Being a Flight Attendant

The number of crew members required on a flight depends on the size of the aircraft. For example, at least one flight attendant is required for every 50 seats. In Dominican Republic, the average salary of a flight attendant without experience is approximately RD$75,000 monthly. In the United States, the average annual salary is around USD 58,997.

Being a flight attendant offers multiple advantages, such as the opportunity to travel the world, get to know diverse cultures, develop skills in customer service and communication, and access benefits like accommodation in quality hotels during work stays.

On this International Cabin Crew Day, we recognize the dedication and professionalism of those who, with their work, make each flight a safe and pleasant experience for passengers.
