Abinader delivers 48 inpatient beds and 15 intensive care units in Barahona

Barahona.– President Luis Abinader led the delivery of the general remodeling and expansion of the Emergency area of the Dr. Jaime Sánchez Regional Maternal and Child Hospital, with an investment exceeding RD 494 million. The center has 48 inpatient beds, 15 internal and external intensive care units, operating rooms, emergency area, delivery room, 10 neonatal incubators, pediatric nebulization and observation areas, as well as a milk bank, Kangaroo Mother program and vaccination room. Located in the province of Barahona, transformed into a modern specialized maternal and child center, equipped to efficiently respond to the health needs of women, children, and newborns, and incorporates sterilization areas, recovery and preparation beds, maternal ICU, laboratory services, X-rays, sonography, mammography, and pharmacy, along with an expanded emergency room with triage and maternal-pediatric observation. During the inaugural event, President Abinader highlighted that the Southern region has undergone a significant transformation in health matters, where the renovated Maternity Hospital and the first Pediatric Intensive Care Units of the entire region were delivered, noting that these areas will save lives and offer specialized care to children and newborns without the need for transfers to other parts of the country. The Head of State announced that in the coming months the hospitals of Paraíso, Vicente Noble and Enriquillo will be completely renovated, works that, as he recalled, remained unfinished for years.

Likewise, the ruler informed that the construction of an oncology hospital in Barahona is progressing, which is scheduled to be delivered by the end of this year and will benefit the entire Southern region. He explained that the center will allow patients with cancer to receive specialized treatment in the province, avoiding having to travel to Santo Domingo to access those medical services. The president also referred to other transformation projects being carried out in Barahona, including the intervention of the docks and the construction of apartments to relocate families living in shacks. In addition, he proposed the creation of a community volunteer program to collaborate in the care and preservation of the new hospital facilities, while expressing his confidence that the works will contribute to substantially improve health and quality of life throughout the region. The central words of the event were given by the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio César Landrón, who highlighted that the Dr. Jaime Sánchez Regional Maternal and Child Hospital was built on more than 4,000 square meters, with an investment exceeding RD 494 million destined for both infrastructure and state-of-the-art medical equipment, with the purpose of strengthening the response capacity of the health system in the Southern region and offering more accessible and higher quality medical services for thousands of citizens. The official highlighted that the population and tourism growth in the south of the country demands health services that match the investments promoted by the Government, which is why the hospital was conceived as a strategic work to strengthen the region's health network.
