Santo Domingo.- In the framework of the beginning of the hurricane season on June 1st, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, assured this Monday that the government will protect the entire population without exception, while urging citizens to collaborate by leaving vulnerable areas if required.
During his weekly address "La Semanal con la Prensa", where he presented the 2025 Hurricane Contingency Plan, Abinader stated “we are going to protect all Dominicans who are on national territory.”
The president acknowledged that government entities are prepared to act, although not all scenarios that could arise from intense natural phenomena can be foreseen.
In that sense, he reiterated the call to the population to act responsibly: “The first protection that everyone has to have is to avoid unnecessary risk situations. We ask the population to leave vulnerable places,” he emphasized.
The president highlighted that the Government has protocols and emergency plans, but insisted that citizen cooperation is fundamental to reduce risks and preserve lives in the face of any eventuality during this hurricane season.
Dominican authorities have already initiated prevention and monitoring operations throughout the country, while maintaining close surveillance of the atmospheric behavior in the Caribbean region.
