Canada has confirmed that it accepts the entry of Spanish pork products from areas free of the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak declared at the end of November in the Catalonia region (northeast).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain informed this Monday through the social network X that "Canada has confirmed that it is committed to EU regionalization for exports from our pork sector. We work with transparency and give confidence". Brazil, Colombia, Taiwan, and Namibia also announced new requirements to allow the entry of some pork products. You can also read: Brussels considers "unjustified" the provisional Chinese tariffs on EU dairy products
Following the declaration of a focus of African swine fever in Catalonia, which had been free of the disease for more than thirty years, several countries imposed restrictions on Spanish pork. At the moment, more than a hundred export health certificates are still blocked by around 40 countries. There are already 27 positive cases of ASF detected in Spain, which are limited only to wild boars, although the high contagiousness of the disease has put pig farms near the initial outbreak on alert.
