Santo Domingo. – Carolina Mejía toured several points that were affected by the strong winds last Monday, from where she coordinated the work to return them to normal as soon as possible.
"It generated, as you have seen, damage especially in Gazcue, Ciudad Colonial, Zona Universitaria and the Malecón," he indicated in reference to the sectors that were most affected by the winds that lashed the capital, which have been intervened since Monday.
When speaking with the media in Gazcue, the mayor valued the deployment of more than 1,100 brigadistas, including firefighters and collaborators of the council, to deal with the amount of fallen trees and branches along with other institutions.
"We are using saws to cut the large trunks and then removing them with mechanical shovels, and if other heavy equipment is needed in those places we have already mentioned, we are working in parallel to return to normal as soon as possible, considering that Indomet has indicated that there are still forecasts of rain," he underlined.
Mejía valued the inter-institutional coordination with the Fire Department of the DN, the Ministry of Public Works, the EDEs and RD Vial to develop the necessary measures to cut and collect the trees.
The municipal executive stated that in each of these cases, the Mayor's Office of the National District is working in a coordinated manner with community leadership.
"This morning at the Mayor's Operational Table we coordinated and divided the teams that were going to work in the different sectors," he pointed out about the deployment that keeps directors, coordinators and brigadiers at each affected point.
Bienvenida Castro, president of the Union of Neighborhood Councils of Gazcue, thanked the mayor's office for the support since the moment of the strong wind. "Thank God, the mayor was calling early to communicate with us to see what the situation was, we explained what was happening, and she sent her work team as always," she added.
Since the rains of last week, Carolina Mejía has coordinated both cleanup and recovery operations, as well as the channeling of aid for the people who have been affected.
In that sense, he announced that this Tuesday he also carried out a tour of the alleys of Dios, Santa Lucía and Puerto Rico, in the Los Ríos sector, where the Social Services Directorate of the council will deliver raw food rations
