The Non-Alcoholic Food and Beverages group is responsible for most of the inflation recorded in December 2025 according to data from the Central Bank, although the inflation for that month in general was low.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, which explained 50.17% of the inflation for the aforementioned month.
Within this group, the price increases of fresh chicken stand out, an item of high weighting in the family basket, a product that saw its production cycle affected due to the heavy rains recorded in the country in the month of October associated with Hurricane Melissa.
For the same reasons, the increases in the prices of bananas in their different varieties, ajíes, and tomatoes continued to affect due to the damage to their plantations.
The consumer price index (CPI) registered a monthly variation of 0.84% in December 2025.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, along with the groups Miscellaneous Goods and Services, Restaurants and Hotels, Transportation and Recreation and Culture, together explained 90% of the variation of this indicator.
The year-on-year inflation measured from December 2024 to December 2025 stood at 4.95%, remaining within the target range established in the monetary program of 4.0% ± 1.0% for 32 consecutive months, that is, throughout the two years and eight months elapsed from May 2023 to date.
