Caracas.- The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, received this Thursday representatives of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee who are visiting Caracas, as part of the "peace dialogue" between both countries, reported the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
The meeting was held at the Miraflores Palace, headquarters of the Executive of Venezuela, headed by Rodríguez since the capture of Nicolás Maduro last January by US forces, amid a series of attacks on the Caribbean nation.
Along with the representatives of the US Senate was the Chargé d'Affaires of the North American country in Venezuela, Laura Dogu.
Also participating in the meeting were the head of the Venezuelan mission in the U.S., former Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia, and the Vice Minister for Europe and North America, Oliver Blanco.
US and Venezuela Relations Expand
Both delegations held a «respectful conversation in the context of the peace dialogue» with the US, assured VTV, which broadcast images of the meeting without giving details of what was discussed.
The press team of Rodríguez said in a note that the US delegation is making a "technical and political" visit to Caracas that "continues the roadmap established" between both countries and that prioritizes "direct communication to manage historical divergences and strengthen energy cooperation in the face of global challenges".
Rodríguez met with this delegation after swearing in the new designated ministers on Wednesday, including the Minister of Defense, General-in-Chief Gustavo González López, sanctioned by the U.S., the European Union (EU) and other countries for human rights violations, and who replaced Vladimir Padrino López, who held the position since 2014.
"Mutual Respect"
U.S. representatives met on Wednesday with the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, as part of the "firm agenda of direct dialogue, always based on mutual respect and cooperation between nations," as the deputy later said on Telegram.
Last week, opposition parliamentarian Antonio Ecarri announced that he would propose the creation of a parliamentary "friendship group" between Venezuela and the U.S..
