The Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (INTABACO) and ISA University began academic and practical training on tobacco cultivation and curing.
That project began with the planting of the T-150 and T-13 tobacco varieties in the experimental field of that university, where they also set up a curing house to support the training and technical processes of the students.
This initiative was led by the director of INTABACO, Iván Hernández Guzmán; the rector of ISA University, Edwin Reyes Arias; the agricultural director of INTABACO, Isidro Tavárez; the head of Research, Tirso Ramírez; the head of the Georeferenced System, Ernesto Pérez; the head of layers, Tony Candelier; the head of Humanities at ISA University, Cindy Cristóbal and other members of both institutions.
Hernández Guzmán highlighted the institution's interest in supporting the academy in the training of future agricultural professionals, so that they know new techniques for growing tobacco and that in the future they can contribute their knowledge to the tobacco industry of the Dominican Republic, which is in constant growth.
While Rector Reyes Arias described this alliance as an opportunity to reinforce practical learning and agricultural research at ISA University, promoting the processes of innovation, research, and strengthening of human talent.
Both incumbents highlighted that the Dominican Republic's tobacco industry generates more than $1.34 billion in exports each year, 120,000 direct and indirect jobs, of which 40,000 are from free zones, being the largest employer in this sector and positioning the country as a leader in the production of premium tobaccos in the world.
