Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) reiterated its support for the bill on the regulation of independent candidacies presented by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), reiterating the need to eliminate inequalities that would allow so-called independent candidacies to participate in elections under advantageous conditions compared to political parties.
The assertion is from Johnny Pujols, general secretary of the PLD, upon leaving a meeting with the special commission of Congress that is studying the bill on the regulation of independent candidacies. You can also read:
“We explain the need to eliminate inequalities that would allow independent candidates to participate in advantageous conditions in electoral processes over party candidates. What we seek is to be able to all participate democratically on equal terms, in terms of access to resources, transparency, and participation,” explained Pujols.
“Y venimos a reiterar nuestro respaldo a la propuesta que ha presentado la Junta (JCE) con el derecho que tienen los diputados de enriquecer y mejorar esa propuesta y como partido venimos básicamente a eso”, dijo.
He explained that the ruling that approves independent candidacies, without any level of regulation, if it can undermine and fragment the political scenario, which is why it is necessary for there to be regulations, which is what is contemplated in the JCE project.
“It is a project that has been agreed upon, therefore, we totally agree. It has been a great effort. To avoid political fragmentation and anything that damages Dominican democracy, guaranteeing the right of any citizen to run as an independent candidate, preserving that right,” he concluded.
