Leonel advocates for national unity and warns Government must sacrifice in the face of crisis

Santo Domingo.- The former president and leader of the party La Fuerza del Pueblo, Leonel Fernández, valued the meeting held with the Government commission headed by the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, as "affable, cordial and respectful".

The meeting held at the headquarters of the Global Democracy and Development Foundation (FUNGLODE), in which the main economic and political challenges facing the country were addressed in the current international context marked by the conflict in the Middle East. Fernández reported that during the meeting they listened to Minister Paliza's presentation on the government's vision regarding the crisis and the official plans structured in three pillars to address it. "Although there are differences in the interpretation of the economic reality, we maintain the commitment to democratic stability as the basis for national development and well-being," said the leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo. The politician and lawyer warned that since 2025, a slowdown has been observed in the Dominican economy, which generates concern in the face of the current international scenario, although he acknowledged that factors such as the favorable behavior of the price of gold have contributed to partially mitigate the effects of the external crisis. He also maintained that the sacrifices needed to face the situation should fall primarily on the Government, which must demonstrate its willingness to adopt responsible measures without affecting the well-being of the Dominican people.
