Santo Domingo. – The former president of the Republic and leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, Leonel Fernández, launched strong criticisms against the Government after the general blackout that affected the country for several hours on the morning and afternoon of this Monday.
Through his social media, the also president of the FP described the electrical interruption —the second of national scope in less than three months— as a worrying sign of the deterioration of the energy system. According to what he expressed, the situation reflects the lack of investment to modernize the electrical infrastructure and expand the generation matrix. Fernández warned that this type of failure causes serious consequences in the daily lives of citizens. He pointed out that the Santo Domingo Cable Car service was interrupted, as was the Santo Domingo Metro, while numerous traffic lights stopped working, generating congestion on important roads in Greater Santo Domingo and other locations.
