Rafael Santos supports training, scholarships and certification for musicians and artists in the country
Santo Domingo. – The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, held a meeting with prominent representatives of the national artistic sector, in which he reaffirmed the institutional commitment to promote the training, certification and professionalization of Dominican creators. During the meeting, which was attended by figures such as Ramón Orlando, Chucky Acosta, Kinito Méndez, Pochy Familia and Valerio de León, initiatives aimed at strengthening the training of the cultural sector and its insertion into the labor market were addressed. The minister highlighted that the Government fully supports the artistic sector and its integration into educational transformation. "This group, which represents national culture and art, has all our support," he said. He also explained that academic programs will be promoted for musicians and artists who, despite their talent and technical mastery, do not have formal qualifications.Santos Badía also announced support for a master's degree focused on collective management and institutional strengthening of the cultural sector. "We have decided to support this master's degree and give a deadline to complete an initial enrollment of 40 participants, with the goal of launching it in May," he specified.“One of the most important initiatives will be the certification or validation of skills, which will allow us to recognize talent, not just academic merit,” he said.

The official emphasized that these actions are part of the educational reform promoted by MESCyT, which seeks to expand opportunities and respond to the demands of the labor market. "We want musicians, artists, and creators to be able to enter the education system and also the labor market, including their participation in programs such as the extended school day," he indicated. Finally, he reiterated that the educational transformation process will have the participation of the artistic sector throughout the country.“When we start the national consultation, we are going to have the artists giving their opinion on the education they want for their children and for the future of the Dominican Republic”, he concluded.
