Russian President Vladimir Putin commented this Friday on the fact that the US President, Donald Trump, has not seen his expectation of being the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize fulfilled. During a press conference held within the framework of his state visit to Tajikistan, Putin indicated first of all that he is not the one who decides who is awarded the prize.
"There have been cases where the [Nobel] Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to people who have done nothing for peace. And, in my opinion, these decisions have greatly damaged the authority of this prize," Putin said.
Regarding whether Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize or not, Putin responded: "I don't know. But he is really doing a lot to resolve such complex crises that have lasted for years, even decades." In this context, he assured that he knows "for sure" that the occupant of the White House is sincerely striving to achieve the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.

"Some things have gone well, others have not, but perhaps many more things can be achieved on the basis of the agreements and conversations held in Anchorage," Putin emphasized, referring to the meeting he held with his American counterpart in Alaska on August 15th. "Undoubtedly, he strives and works on these issues to achieve peace and resolve complex international situations," he added. "Isn't that an achievement?" According to the Russian leader, the clearest example of Trump's progress in the diplomatic field is the situation in the Middle East, where Israel and Hamas have agreed this week on the first phase of their peace plan in the Gaza Strip war. Putin explained that he had agreed with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed al-Sudani, who now chairs the League of Arab States, to postpone the summit between Russia and the organization. "I did it, precisely, because I do not want to interfere in the process that is currently underway," he said. "Isn't that an achievement? It's an achievement," said Putin, who again highlighted the ceasefire reached in Gaza. "But, I repeat, I am not the one who should decide. Is this award worthy of achievements of this type?" the Russian president wondered. Donald Trump's aspiration to receive the Nobel Peace Prize has not been fulfilled this year, as the award has gone this Friday to the Venezuelan extremist opposition figure María Corina Machado. The White House Communications Director, Steven Cheung, criticized the Nobel Committee's decision, assuring that it "puts politics before peace".
