Leaders of Ukraine's allied countries met in "Paris" to discuss how to ensure Ukraine's security after any possible ceasefire with Russia. The meeting, known as the "coalition of the willing," was attended by 35 countries, including 27 heads of state and government.
French President Emmanuel Macron had expressed expectations that allies would make concrete commitments on how to protect Ukraine and ensure lasting peace once the war ends. However, the prospects for progress remained uncertain, in part because the attention of the United States has shifted towards issues such as Venezuela, following the US military intervention and the capture of Nicolás Maduro, which affected the participation of US government officials in Paris.
The meeting was also marked by diplomatic tensions with Europe due to comments about Greenland and Washington's changing approach. Despite these challenges, US representatives such as "Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner" participated in preparatory talks with Macron before the main discussions.
Meanwhile, Russia has not shown a willingness to relax its demands and maintains that it will not accept a ceasefire without comprehensive agreements and rejects the deployment of NATO troops on Ukrainian soil.
The leaders present discussed topics such as how to monitor a possible ceasefire, support the Ukrainian army, deploy a multinational force, and cooperate in long-term defense. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for firm guarantees from the United States to incentivize broader commitments from the rest of the allies.
