The socialist democrat makes history by becoming the first mayor of South Asian origin.
Zohran Mamdani was inaugurated on January 1st as the 112th mayor of New York, USA, becoming the first Muslim to govern the city.Mamdani officially took the oath at midnight on Wednesday in a private ceremony held in an abandoned subway station near City Hall. "It is the honor and privilege of a lifetime", said the Mayor.
The public event will take place on Thursday afternoon at City Hall, in a ceremony led by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.
