New York.- This Friday, July 4, 2025, United States celebrates 249 years of independence, a date that commemorates the historic moment when the Thirteen Colonies broke ties with the United Kingdom and laid the foundations of a free and sovereign nation.
Almost two and a half centuries after that momentous event, the country is dressed in red, white, and blue to remember its past and look to the future with pride.
Independence Day is much more than a festive day. It is the reminder of July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson. With this document, the separation from Great Britain was officially proclaimed, giving rise to the United States of America and paving the way for a revolutionary war that would conclude in 1783 with the international recognition of its sovereignty.
Since then, July 4th has been a symbol of freedom, democracy, and resilience. And like every year, millions of Americans celebrate with parades, concerts, community activities, and, of course, spectacular fireworks that light up the sky from coast to coast.
