Christian Horner, fired as Red Bull Racing team principal

Sports writing (EFE).- The Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing has dismissed Christian Horner from the position of team principal this Wednesday "immediately", after 20 years, in which he has won eight world drivers' titles and six constructors' titles, and his position will be filled by Laurent Mekies, head of Racing Bulls.

«We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years. With his tireless commitment, experience, work and innovative thinking, he has been fundamental in establishing the team as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1», expressed Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull, this Wednesday in a statement, where they announced that Laurent Mekies will be his replacement. Horner, who had a contract until the end of 2030, has led the most glorious era of the team in Formula 1 with Sebastian Vettel and the team winning four consecutive drivers' and constructors' championships between 2010 and 2013 and Max Verstappen winning the last four drivers' championships between 2021 and 2024, as well as being constructors' champion in 2022 and 2023. Achievements under his mandate
Under the British mandate, Red Bull has achieved 124 victories, 107 ‘poles’ and 287 podiums and in its last race, held last weekend in Great Britain, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, driver of the team, started in ‘pole’, but finished in fifth position. The team wasn't at its best, being in fourth position in the constructors' standings, 288 points behind the leader, McLaren, and with Ferrari and Mercedes also ahead, with only two victories in the first twelve races of the season. With its departure, the Austrian team has seen great figures leave in the last eighteen months, including engineer Adrian Newey, who is currently in the ranks of Aston Martin, and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, at Kick Sauber. As part of the reorganization, Laurent Mekies, who until now held the role of team principal of the Racing Bulls team, will take over Horner's position, while Alan Permane will replace Mekies. «It has been an incredible adventure to contribute to the birth of Racing Bulls along with all our talented people. The spirit of the whole team is incredible, and I firmly believe that this is only the beginning. I feel very honored to take over as team principal and I would like to thank everyone for the trust they have shown in me,» expressed Mekies, in statements released by the team, where he showed his desire to start with this «new challenge». When talking about his replacement Alar Permane, Mekies was full of praise: "Alan is the perfect man to take over now and continue our path. He knows the team perfectly and has always been an important pillar of our first successes."
