Bogotá.- The Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives joined the mourning on Monday for the death of Senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay with the publication of a moving black and white video in which the politician is seen singing 'La tierra del olvido' with his young son.

"I'll keep this image of you, Miguel, singing with me for our land and for our children," wrote Vives on X, where he shared the clip in which a smiling Uribe plays one of the most recognized songs of the artist from Santa Marta on the piano.

Vives, who has repeatedly used his music to promote messages of unity and reconciliation, recalled that the country is going through "a painful moment" and called to defend life and reject violence. "Today, more than ever, we must sing together to remember what we are and what we don't want to lose," he affirmed. In interviews, videos, and social media, and even in political debates, Uribe Turbay demonstrated his passion for music: from childhood he studied piano and practiced it regularly, played the accordion as a follower of vallenato, in addition to the acoustic guitar and also sang. In his networks, he shared interpretations of songs, such as one with Senator Carlos Meisel, his colleague in the Democratic Center party. The words of Carlos Vives were joined by the Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes, who expressed on X: "May the passing of Miguel Uribe Turbay be an urgent call to awaken the conscience of our beloved Colombia. My deepest condolences to his family and friends." The National Association of Symphonic Music also mourned his death and highlighted that "art, music and culture are the way to build a country at peace". Uribe Turbay, 39 years old, died early this Monday in Bogotá, 64 days after receiving two shots to the head and one in the left leg during a political rally in the Bogotá neighborhood of Modelia. His death has generated a wave of reactions condemning the crime and calling for the 2026 legislative and presidential elections to take place in peace.
